Conceptual framework

Developing the conceptual framework

A conceptual framework is a research tool that is used to introduce and organise the ideas, concepts and hypotheses that form the theoretical foundation for the methods and analysis used in a research project.

The development of a ‘conceptual framework’ is a typical first step in many Horizon 2020 research projects.  A first version of the AgriLink conceptual framework was prepared in November 2017 and an updated version was published in May 2018.  A final enriched version is available by the end of the AgriLink project in November 2021.

The AgriLink conceptual framework builds upon state-of-the-art knowledge about the role of advisory organisations in farmer decision-making and their contribution to learning and innovation.  It was developed through a transdisciplinary process that involved both researchers and practitioners in writing, editing and reviewing the main text of the framework document, as well as preparing a series of so-called ‘theory primers’.

The ‘theory primers’ are an integral part of the conceptual framework and are the means by which individual members of the AgriLink consortium have contributed specific expertise (both practical and academic) from a wide range of relevant disciplines.
